Support and Homework Supervision

The main activity of the children in the daytime is to complete the homework set by their schoolteachers and to work progressively towards higher grades. Children are encouraged to be autonomous learners, and helped to develop habits of a healthy work ethnic, personal responsibility and sound time management.

Total Learning for Children / Language Care

This is a support programme for children who are facing specific or general learning difficulties in school and are unable to progress without individualized help. Each child on the TLC programme is assessed before being assigned to learning skill stations. At these stations, they have the chance to practise and improve the specific learning areas they have difficulty in.

As and when required, language class is conducted for pre-schoolers and Primary 1 children who require coaching in basic literary skills.

Shared Reading

Pre-schoolers and early school-aged children are helped to develop a love for reading and familiarity with printed word through half-hourly sessions of shared reading with a reading buddy. The frequency of these sessions depends on the need of the child and availability of volunteer reading buddies.

Moral and Value Education

Three times a week, a half-hourly session is spent on building up the children's awareness of values and moral values. This is usually carried out through story-telling, review of current events and audio-visuals.

Liturgical celebrations like Lent, Easter, Christmas and Canossian Saints' Day as well as celebrations of the children's birthdays, Teachers' Day, Children's Day, Mothers' Day, Fathers' Day and Grandparents' Day are also various ways of imparting values and morals to our children.

Self-help and Housekeeping Skills Development

All the children at Canossaville are encouraged to learn and practise self-help and housekeeping skills from a very early age. This is to help them support their parent(s) at home and provide them with opportunities for character formation.

Holiday Work Attachment

Children who are sufficiently mature and responsible are given opportunities to experience sheltered work training during the semester holidays. Through close monitoring by Canossaville staff and weekly feedback from their workplace, they are helped to develop sound habits of discipline and positive work attitudes.

Group and Individual Counselling

Children who have unresolved emotional or psychological needs are identified for regular counselling, either on an individual or group basis.

Enrichment Courses

These are provided ad hoc as and when the volunteers in various creative, cultural or sports activities are able to offer their professional expertise in training the children. Some courses that have been organised included Music, Dance, Art & Craft, Speech & Drama and Sports.

Recreational / Outdoor Play

Canossaville is well equipped with an attractive playground and sports equipment. Children are encouraged to play outdoors when weather conditions permit. There are opportunities too for them to develop skills in basketball, badminton and table-tennis.

Parenting Skills Workshop

The Canossaville staff or an external agency conduct this training for parents who are interested in improving their parenting and child management skills. Useful tips are imparted in a light-hearted manner through role-plays, demonstrations and review of cases, etc.

Sanctuary

Canossaville has a garden sanctuary tucked behind our multi-purpose hall for our children to find their centre and their God. It aims at helping our children to appreciate silence and solitude.
